Name: Dolly Hatton
Age: I’m not telling, but I’m a native Texan born and raised here in the Lone Star.
Parents: My father was a Jack Russell Terrier and my mother a Countess.
Favorite Pastimes: Sleeping on my bed with my squeak toys by the picture window of the Main Lodge of the Hatton Ranch where I can keep my eye on things. I take care of Pete, the Ranch Manager and I like to nap and play with my toys. Pete belongs to me.
Occupation: I greet hunters when they drive into the Hatton Ranch by the main farm house. Usually, I’m the first one out the door to say hello. I bark a lot, but that means I like you. I’m very friendly.
Also, I track deer. And, I’m good at it.
My good friend Pete taught me how, but I was a natural. Sometimes a hunter and guide are looking for a deer that has been shot and while tracking they stop seeing blood on the ground and there’s no deer. At that point, they usually turn to each other and say: Let’s get Dolly! Then, they come and find me at the main lodge and I jump on the 4WD Mule anxious to put my nose to work at the scene. I’ve done such a great job over the years that hunters from neighboring ranches sometime call my Pete to ask if I can help them find a deer that has gotten lost. It’s good to be wanted, but I wish some of these hunters could shoot better.
Likes: Hunters that hit a deer through both lungs…those deer don’t run far and I can just stay home napping. I also like riding in the Mule next to Pete where I stand up on the front seat and do my four-legged surfer imitation.
Dislikes: Armadillos…I chase them. I hate coyotes and hogs…but I leave them alone.
Acknowledged Weakness: For a Female of my breeding, I hate to admit this: I sometimes sneak under the dining room table while my Pete and other hunters are eating dinner, and very quietly see who will give me some food. I accept most anything but really like steak.
